Studies on the Physiological Activities of Tonic Drugs(Ⅰ)

Abstract
|
|
|
As one of series of traditional tonic drug in Korea, the studies were carried to evaluate the antidiabetic activities on the hyperglycemia-induced by streptozotocin in rats of Dioscorea batatas tuber. Dioscorea batatas water and methanol extracts were adiministered before and after injuction of streptozotocin(45mg/kg, i.p.)and blood glucose, serum total cholesterol and serum triglyceride levels were determined at 4th days after streptozotocin injection.
The results were as follows:
1. The blood glucose levels of streptozotocin-induced hyperglycemic rats were dose-dependently decreased by administrations of all doses(100,200,400mg/kg) of water and methanol extracts.
2. The serum total cholesterol levels of streptozotocin-induced hyperglycemic rats were dose-depen dently decreased by administrations of all doses (100,200,400mg/kg) of water and methanol extracts.
3. The serum triglyceride levels of streptozotocin-induced hyperglycemic rats were dose-dependently decreased by administrations of all doses (100,200,400mg/kg) of water and methanol extracts.
